The School of Communication and the Multimedia Web Design and Development (MWD2) program are seeking applications for a joint tenure-track position at the assistant professor level. The primary assignment will be in the School of Communication. Review of applications will begin as of October 1, 2008 and will continue until the position is filled.

The MWD2 program is an interdisciplinary major within University College division with many of its required courses offered by the College of Arts and Sciences, the Hartford Art School, the College of Engineering, Technology, and Architecture, and the Business School. It is a liberal arts major leading to a BA degree that brings together Internet technology with social, business, educational and governmental institutions. MWD2 graduates not only have the technical skills in a wide range of Internet technology, they also are skilled in understanding the human interactive component of technology use. Expertise and Qualifications: Candidates must have an earned doctorate (ABD will be considered) in a field that addresses the theoretical and applied issues in communication and information technology. Expertise in Multimedia Production, Multimedia Communication, Web Advertising, On-line Journalism, Computer-mediated Communication, and Information Technology; prior teaching experience; evidence of scholarly activities; and/or business experience are desirable.
The ideal candidate will have good knowledge of Internet software used for multimedia Web design and development. The key applications include Adobe Flash, Dreamweaver, Photoshop, Fireworks, or other graphics packages. Proficiency in JavaScript, CSS, and ActionScript, as well as proficiency in using PHP, ASP.NET, Ajax, and C# or other server-side languages, desired. Knowledge of video streaming technologies including Flash Media Server 3, QuickTime Streaming Server, or other similar Web-based video delivery systems is important. Experience with video editing tools such as Adobe Premiere, Apple Final Cut Pro, Adobe After Effects or similar applications is highly desirable. Flash game development a plus.
Responsibilities: Faculty members teach three courses per semester (half of the courses will be in the School of Communication and half in MWD2), engage in scholarly activities, and participate in Departmental, School and University service. Applicants will be expected to demonstrate evidence/potential for superior teaching.
Scholarship and professional development activities culminating in publications, convention papers, and other refereed outlets are required.

The University of Texas at Austin
The Department of Communication Studies at the University of Texas at Austin seeks a full or associate professor, full-time, tenure-track faculty member in the area of organizational communication with an emphasis on communication technologies, broadly conceived, to begin January or September 1, 2009. Applicants must have a strong record of teaching, a willingness to teach large undergraduate sections, published scholarship in organizational communication, and a demonstrated ability and willingness to actively pursue external funding. All methodological approaches and theoretical orientations are welcome.

Telecommunication Media Studies
The Department of Communication at Texas A&M University, College Station, TX, invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor in Telecommunication Media Studies, starting fall 2009. We are seeking an individual with expertise in international communication, global media, or comparative media systems. Internationalization is a priority and the Department has new initiatives in China and the Asian Pacific region and programs and partnerships in Mexico, South America, Europe, and the Middle East. Topics of interest include communication technologies, cultural studies, feminist theory and criticism, diaspora and immigrant media, race and ethnicity, telecommunication, television studies, political communication, law and policy, or other areas of media studies. The successful candidate’s work will complement that of the existing faculty and other new hires in each of the Department’s areas of strength: telecommunication media studies, rhetoric and public address, organizational communication, and health communication. Qualifications include Ph.D. in Communication or related discipline (exceptional ABD candidates may be considered); successful teaching experience; a program of research within the areas described above; promise of significant contribution to Communication; and evidence of potential for graduate instruction.
