First off, we are now on Facebook. If you want to join, go to HCTD on Facebook. So far we only have 35 members, so that is well under 10% of the membership. You're probably on Facebook anyway, so you may as well use it as a way to network with other like-minded scholars!

HCTD Member Activities

Our members have been quite busy this year. This section will provide some information on what people in the division have been doing.

Lenny Shedletsky, a Professor in the Department of Communication & Media Studies at the University of Southern Maine did a Guest Presentation at the Center for New Media Teaching and Learning at Columbia University titled, "Does Online Discussion Produce Increased Interaction and Critical Thinking?" on October 3, 2008. Professor Shedletsky also wrote the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation Grant proposal for his department and conducted a workshop titled, "How am I doing: Anonymity, Contingent Teaching, and Discussion, " at the Inaugural Conference on Classroom Response Systems: Innovations and Best Practices in Louisville, Kentucky in November. Watch for his forthcoming articles and book chapters.

Matthew J. Smith of Wittenberg University will be teaching a field study program at next summer's Comic-Con International in San Diego, CA. For more information on this program, see our calls for participation page.

Davis Foulger is currently in Nanjing, China as a part of the Brooklyn College Study Abroad program, teaching a section of Intercultural Communication to CUNY students. Davis is also the chair of the Communication and Technology Interest Group of the Eastern Communication Association.
