HCTD Call for Papers 2007

Submission deadline: February 14, 2007

Type of Work:

The Human Communication and Technology Division invites papers, panels, roundtables, and scholar to scholar (interactive media) sessions that examine the theory and application of communication technologies.

All epistemologies are welcome, including (but not limited to) rhetorical, critical/cultural, qualitative, quantitative, or multiple methods perspectives.

These perspectives should be used to investigate a specific topic of interest, especially those centered around this year’s convention theme, Communicating Worldviews: Faith—Intellect—Ethics.

Other topics have included (but are not limited to) virtual teams or groups, instructional technology, user interface, virtual communities, open source, politics, information literacy, international perspectives, theoretical exploration, policy, and a variety of other topics that examine the implications of technologically mediated communication.

Type of Submission:

There are several types of submissions.

First, submit completed papers (no more than 25 pages of text) and panel proposals for competitive evaluation for the traditional paper and panel type of submission. We especially encourage students to submit their papers and are introducing the first annual Top Student Paper Award in the amount of $75.

Second, submit roundtable proposals. Roundtables are not paper-based, but discussion based and should be comprised of experts on a particular topic that make brief statements (2 min. per person) before interacting with the audience.

Third, scholar to scholar sessions are encouraged. These presentations could be poster presentations as well as making use of other interactive media. Papers with strong visual presentation requirements can also be submitted for scholar to scholar sessions. Submitters of traditional papers should indicate whether they are willing to present their paper in the scholar to scholar format as well.

Submitting:

Submission deadline: February 14, 2007

All submissions must be made online through the NCA site. You will be directed to the All Academic site with prompts to clarify the process.

Submissions will be accepted only in these formats: Word, PDF (Adobe Acrobat), and Rich Text. Do NOT compress files before sending. Audio and visual requests should accompany your submission.

All authors should prepare a 250-500 word abstract that will be submitted as plain text on the submission page. No information identifying the author may appear in the paper. If your submission is accepted, the abstract and author information will be permanently posted on the HCTD web site (http://hctd.net).

Authors are reminded that it is good practice, when submitting abstracts and other information to an online site, to compose in a local editor and cut and paste into the abstract and other fields.
