Programming Update
NCA 2008 Convention Report, Rodney Marshall & Shannon Van Horn, Co-Vice Chairs, Programs
By the numbers:
- 20 panel slots were allotted for the division
- 130 papers submitted
- 18 panel sessions submitted
- HCTD was 7th of all divisions and caucuses in number of submissions.
- 3 co-sponsored panels were created
- 55 papers were accepted and placed in creatively named panels
- 20 papers were accepted for scholar to scholar sessions (some were not submitted as scholar to scholar, but they were too good to not be present at this convention, so we programmed them as scholar to scholar).
- 10 of these scholar to scholar papers are also the top student papers and top papers (they will present twice –once at the panel and once during the scholar to scholar session)
- 8 panels were accepted
- 1 extra session may also possibly be accepted (we are submitting our rationale why)
- IF the extra panel is accepted, then 50% of all papers and 50% of all sessions submitted will be presenting in San Diego.
- 1 slot will be taken up by the business meeting
- 62 people reviewed papers and panels (THANK YOU!!!)
- Each paper and panel was blind-reviewed by three people
- May 9: The day the word goes out as to which papers and sessions were accepted
We, Rodney and Shannon, thank everyone who submitted a paper or panel or helped review a session. We are excited about the caliber of papers and sessions submitted, and we think you will be pleased, too!
