Values in Technology Design: Democracy, Autonomy, and Justice

How do we ensure a place for values, alongside technical standards such as speed, efficiency, and reliability, as criteria by which we judge quality and acceptability of communication systems and new media?

How do values such as privacy, autonomy, democracy, and social justice become integral to the conception, design, and development of communication technology, not merely retrofitted after completion?

Values in Technology Design is a project for researchers, practitioners, and public interest advocates who understand that information and communication technologies are a crucial medium for asserting social, political, and moral values such as freedom, autonomy, justice, privacy and democracy.

Visit the Values in Design website - learn about projects and courses and tell us about your own efforts.

If you have any announcements you would like to place in the newsletter, please e-mail either Scott D'Urso or Yun Xia.
